Wednesday, September 4, 2013 - For those lucky enough to be holding a well-cellared bottle of this wine, I can only say...enjoy! Medium-to-deep golden and very complex, it struts aromas and flavors of honeysuckle, citrus peel, butterscotch, apple pie and baking spice. Full-bodied, almost unctuous, it is a lush, mouthfilling combination of creamy structure and vibrant acidity (which hides its 14.0% alcohol well). Solid in the middle, it concludes with a long, crisp finish. Few will ever experience a Napa Valley Chardonnay with this type of age-worthiness. In years past (and now), Hanzell and Stony Hill could rival this bottling...but even those fine producers would be pressed to outdo it. Drink now-2018.

11/24/2013 9:12:00 PM - Did you aerate your wine in this tasting? My bottles, while nice have not shown this well (See my last tasting note, in particular). I got the wine at a fantastic price because they had been stored several years upright in the liquor store so it may be a bit stressed, but this last bottle had strong signs the wine might benefit from aeration.

11/25/2013 1:45:00 PM - The bottle referenced in this 9/4/13 tasting note was purchased upon release and cellared in pristine fashion (55° F, 70% relative humidity). It was lightly chilled, opened and immediately served without additional aeration. The wine was consumed over approximately 2-3 hours, showing its best at a serving temperature close to cellar temperature. Perhaps some or all of the bottles that you purchased had been stressed in some way. I would go ahead and try extra aeration with the next bottle that you open, serially sampling the wine in the process. Hopefully it will be helpful. Cheers!
