90 Points

Friday, January 24, 2014 - We enjoyed a bottle of 1991 Napa Valley Silver Oak. I got this bottle act auction a while back. It was very good. The color was dark and almost a chocolate hew to it. I opened it 2 hours before dinner but did not decant as it was a large format. First whiff was very promising with a floral big black fruit thing going on. Maybe some plum or chalk smell. In the mouth, it was pretty acidic. The first could sips had a bite to it. I would also say there is a slight bit of oxidation going on. If this was stored properly for all these years (Always a question when you buy from auction), this one is reached and possible past its prime. I have one more and will be drinking it soon.
