Monday, June 30, 2014 - R&D slipped one into Saturday's tasting which ended up being flawed so they stood one up so that we could try it, having only two in our cellar. Popped & poured, this had a light meniscus but deep crimson core. The bouquet featured aromas of black currants and plum with earthy/funky undertones. Plum, red berry and forest floor tones on the palate. Integrated and balanced, on the light side of medium-bodied; almost feminine on the palate. With time in the glass, aromas of saddle leather and dried tobacco emerged. An feminine, elegant vintage, much softer and lighter than I expected. Really a wine for a meal. Based on this bottle, I do not see too much improvement, rather, a long window of terrific drinking. Drink now-2020 with a meal.
