Sunday, July 20, 2014 - Wine day in Katsunuma (Japan): This is an insanely magnificent wine! A monster of magnificence!

Dark red colour.
Early maturity detected on the nose even if it is mainly tightly shut. With some coaxing, we got oak, caramel, rubber and light touch of smoke.

Superbly balanced wine! Woah! Still rather young with a long and exquisite life ahead. Rich and GRANDE on the palate where the M+ tannins and M++ acids stand erect with stony faces. Not at all an "easy drinking wine", but will eventually get there.
GOTT SOM FAN!
QPR can be discussed as this is 15000 YEN per btl...
At Chateau Mercian.

7/21/2014 4:01:00 AM - Wow, love the sound of this wine. Would love to try a bottle of this and the Chardonnay with you when I'm next in Japan with some time - I'll pay for the merlot!

Great write up... Japanese wines were previously not even close to being on my radar. Unfortunately, seems almost impossible to buy these wines internationally (for now...)

7/21/2014 12:03:00 PM - These Merlot wines are the wine maker's pride. Of course and with a very well deserved recognition. Will see what I can do for you. Will probably go there again in December. If you come here before that, let's go there and have a fiest :-)
