Sunday, September 7, 2014 - Popped and poured, this had a nose of potpourri and acetone, with a tight, tart palate. With a few hours of decanting, the nose evolves a rich aroma of cherry compote. The palate echoes this with a bold, fruity profile. Despite 20 years in the bottle, this remains mostly primary. Three hours of aeration did not soften the still grippy tannins. If the 1985 Léoville Barton is an indication, there are manifold wonderful dimensions of this wine waiting to reveal themselves over the next decade. Would expect my comparatively modest score to trend upwards over time.
