Sunday, November 30, 2014 - This Verdelho was not what I was expecting. I thought that it would be light and fruity, like the Spanish or Portuguese wines of the same varietal. This was a much heavier and intense version. Once the heat of its 15.5% alcohol by volume evaporates, it's pleasant nose of ripe citrus and pepper explodes. This wine tastes of citrus, apples, pears, peaches, and honey. There is also a very heavy herbal taste, which is a little unpleasant. One reviewer calls this coriander seed. I am not sure where it comes from, but it makes the wine disjointed and kills the harmony of its fruit, crisp acidity, and creamy oak. It is rich and has a nice mouth coating texture. The wine is medium bodied with a pleasant finish.
