Saturday, April 18, 2015 - P&P'd with takeout chicken teriyaki and fixings. Dark, violet, cloudy, ruby color. Nose is outstanding, emanating a complex assortment of funky wet clay, muddy grass, dried herbs, dark cherries, and lingering notes of cloves and sweet candied strawberries. The palate is light, tight, tart, and compact, with very little fruit, mainly a bitter streak of astringency that still feels slightly out of balance. Subtle hints of blackberries, raspberries, dried leather, and sweet tobacco flow into the finish, which is also short and raw. I think this will get slightly better in a year or two, but you'll appreciate this wine most for the nose and overall rusticity. Definitely an ol' country Beaujolais.
