Saturday, November 10, 2007 - We had four Quilceda Creek Cabs in a blind tasting with a lamb dinner. The four were 2002, 1999, 1998 and 1996. In my opinion the 2002 will probably be the best wine of the group. it was very dark and concentrated. The fruit did not exhibit the residual sweetness that many Cabs from Washington State have. There were firm tannins to support the strong fruit. Also, in my view 2002 has the potential to age way longer and will benefit from aging. I thought it a shame to have consumed it so young but otheres there liked it as is. My favorite wine of the evening to drink was the 1998. It appeared and tasted as an older wine. I thought it had a very nice balance of dried fruit, a bit of earth and blended tannis. It was excellent and went very well with food. I think it will age longer but is quite nice now. The 1999 was also very good drinking. It was deeper in color than the 1998 and appeared and tasted younger. I would have guessed there was more than a year difference between these two wines. The 1999 really opened up over the course of the evening to a very well balanced wine. The 1996 was the group's least favorite. It looked and tasted like an older wine but was more astringent than the 1998. All bottles were decanted and poored back into the bottles a couple of hours before consumption.
