Friday, November 16, 2007 - (out of magnum) This bottle was in much better shape than the Mitans. Cork was hard to get out, indicating a great seal. The wine was a lovely garnet color going red. This was a great expression of Pezerolles, lovely red fruit, hints of a leathery rusticity without venturing into full bore rusticity. There was a lot going on in the nose, a woody-ness, some herbs and something like flowers. The palate did not have the depth os the Rugiens, but it did have some persistence. The wine is still very much going strong, although for my palate, it is in a good drinking window, but I tend to like a bit of lingering structure in my wines. Became more gentle over the course of the evening but without losing it's core structure. A little hint of dryness on the back end, but not what Lyle refers to as the "dreaded 88 syndrome". All in all, a lovely wine that you can begin to enjoy now, but it should certainly hold for 10-15 years.
