Sunday, November 8, 2015 - Decanted for almost two hours and it was very much open and ready to go. The color is shockingly dark to the point of being impenetrable to light. The nose is a little reticent, but it shows blueberries, blackberries, sweet vanilla oak and sage-like herbs. The palate is still rather primary with big blue and black fruits, nicely integrated oak and slightly bitter coffee and dark chocolate notes. The tannins are there, but well integrated and very fine. The real strength of this wine lies in the finish. It just keeps building, gaining complexity and it goes on forever. Clearly big, fruit forward, Napa, but done so expertly that there is a flat out deliciousness that is undeniable. This has the stuffing to last for a long time.
