Sunday, August 14, 2016 - Popped and poured, drank over 2 hours.
This was a travesty, as the wine took almost the entire first hour to get going - but once it did, it was lovely.
Appearance: Clear. Dark ruby, with a wide dull garnet rim.
Nose: Blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, herbs, tobacco, sweet spices, smoke. Initial rather pronounced vegetal notes blew off after 45 minutes of air, allowing mint and coffee notes to emerge.
Palate: Medium/medium(+) acidity, medium body, medium(+) flavour intensity. Medium silky and well-integrated tannins. This was all about the elegance of the body and the purity of the ripe dark fruit coming through with every sip. Long clean finish.
Drinking very well now. The juicy fruit along with the acidity and tannins should keep this wine going for up to another 10 years. 93-94 pts.
