Wednesday, January 25, 2017 - I opened with a little trepidation, figuring the 2015 vintage wasn't unlike 2009, which produced very flavorful, though somewhat ripe wines. I see similarities with this 15, but in a different way. Opens with quite a nice nose, fresh floral fruit with hints of sea spray; I like the medium intense fruit on the palate, no obvious signs of warmth or overripeness, and there is a constant stream of minerality which hits right away and carries through the finish. Touches of saline weave in and out, and there is reasonable length. But overall it just seems a bit clipped, never really unfurling and giving that burst of intensity and complexity that I'm used to in this bottling. It almost seems like the fruit was harvested just a bit too soon, to avoid getting too ripe, resulting in an adolescent wine that never quite reached adulthood. Enjoyable, but not profound.
