Thursday, May 25, 2017 - This lovely wine is California Pinot at its best: rich, complex, powerful, elegant, and delicious. Light purple in color, medium in body, nose of black cherry, straw, menthol, and herbs. Tastes of cranberry, raspberry, and rosemary, with an ethereal and lingering finish. 14.5% alcohol. This is a step behind the 2013 Treehouse, which had a touch more depth.
Although I've felt mixed about Kosta Browne's offerings (which can be sweet and straightforward), I'm not mixed about this: I think Cirq is one of the best producers of modern Pinot in California today. Perhaps this a fleeting thought, but I've always enjoyed high-octane CA Pinot from some of the more established producers (e.g., Peter Michael, Morlet), but I think Cirq offers an additional step of grace and balance.

All that said, I have loved the Cirq wines I have tried; I think they do a marvelous job of balancing ripeness, structure, and acidity. This was a bit of a surprise to me, since I've had mixed experiences with Kosta Browne's wines over the years.
Along those lines, what wineries would you suggest are better (and/or more affordable) that are producing these kinds of New World Pinots? I'm always trying to learn from others' experiences, since you can't know (or taste) it all! Thanks again.
