90 Points

Tuesday, June 27, 2017 - Difficult for me to rate this in isolation as I recently had a truly awesome De Fargues 2004 which managed to be lighter on its feet and to have more nuance than this, while I was expecting the 2001 vintage to sing louder and clearer. The Coutet is quite well developed, a deepening golden colour; some caramel notes amidst the apricot botrytis flavours. Perhaps acidity is a little lacking for me and it comes over a little ponderous, which I was certainly not expecting from a Coutet. I will continue to drink with enjoyment, and enthusiasm as this is a very good wine. Just not, for me, a great one.
