Thursday, October 12, 2017 - Well Phenny has managed to ruin another grape varietal-the 15' is a horrible example of wine making,
Over extracted-imagine that- sweet tar, unbalanced garbage.
Unlike the 14' which he somehow showed some respect for the grape.
This has become my go to cooking wine.

7/1/2018 7:42:00 PM - I think Dave Phinney sold this in 2010 and has nothing to do with it today.

Actually I think the real value in the Dave Phinney catalog doesn't lie in the Orin Swift label wine that was sold to Gallo nor in the Prisoner Wine Company (now owned by Constellation) but in the Locations branded wines that he kept. The CA-4 offers amazing value at $15 and being NV is an interesting twist.

The 2016 Saldo has some of that artificial red licorice confected taste that seems to be more common today than five years ago. But it's better than the Rombauer Zinfanfel and about $5 cheaper. I say that and I like some over-extracted, hot, even flabby wines.
