1990 Lisini Brunello di Montalcino

Community Tasting Note

Does not like this wine:

78 Points

Friday, December 15, 2017 - Very dark red for a mature Brunello which is unusual and hints at overextraction. Possible inclusion of other grape varietals. Suprisingly muted on the nose but seems correct with no Brett or TCA.
Initial taste is also muted fruit and indicates the wine may be closed which would be surprising for a 25+ year old Brunello from the 1990 vintage. The wine is all structure with bracing acidity and excess grip. I decide to open a bottle of Barolo and let the Lisini breath. Although it opens slightly over the next hour, it does not improve significantly. Very disappointing for such a generous vintage and barely drinkable even with food. Not flawed but appears to be just poor wine making with over extraction leaving structure far in excess of resisdual fruit. Poor wine or poor bottle?
