Sunday, December 31, 2017 - Impressions upon opening the bottle pre-decant: Pretty closed. Some lovely scents in there - dark fruit and earth, behind some oak. Medium bodied, violet. Mouth-coating black and blue fruit. Little bit tannic at the closing bell.

Post a 5 hour decant: Still some wood, bittersweet chocolate, floral, earthy, vanilla. Big mouth filling palate and beautiful amazingly long finish. Medium to full in body. Dark fruit, chocolate. Palate right now is immense and pleasurable. Nose is a little bit shy. Not too tannic at all to enjoy after this 5 hour decant. 93 for me tonight but I can see the potential for more.

Edit: I saved a glass from NYE by pouring back into the bottle and stored it in the cellar vacuum sealed. 2 nights later I had that glass over the course of an hour. Quite interesting. Nose is more earthy and meaty and gamey than before, with pleasant violets and florals and sweet licorice and cigar box underneath. Palate is quite tannic. If I had patience I would guess that opening my other bottles in 5-10 years would pay off.

7/7/2018 6:07:00 AM - Thanks for sharing your experience. I agree, while many 2009s already are pretty seductive, they will most like only start to drink best in 10 years time and will then continue to provide pleasure and even continue to get better and better for at least another 10 years.
