Sunday, July 1, 2018 - Sure, the oak is prominent: but I’ve always enjoyed associations with the forest, and this immediately recalls pencil shavings, graphite, linseed oil, spice cabinet, vanilla, freshly ground coffee, and old red-cedar furniture. Pleasantly smoky but not acrid, with an undercurrent of lilacs and lilies. Taut fruits reveal themselves in the form of blackcurrant, blackberry, redcurrant, and red bell peppers, a rather classic Cab profile if ever there was one, although this is rapidly morphing into rich tobacco leaf territory. Finish seems largely roasted on first impression (more coffee ... geez, it’s like I’m at work), but loops back to black wine gums minutes later, and I let out a whoop for Canadian Cab. I wasn’t expecting a donnybrook and I got one. Pitter patter.
