Friday, June 15, 2018 - Tasted at the winery. A hot red cherry note on the nose that faded the longer this wine was open, evolving into a cherry, earth spice mix. More on the light bodied side (12.5% ABV) with red cherry fruit upfront that seemed more open than the 2004, but noticeably lighter in weight. The back shows some light spices and earth notes coupled with light acidity and tannins. The 2007 had noticeably less acidity and tannins overall, leaving the wine feeling very accessible, but almost exposed. The fruit is still supporting the wine on its own for now, but the 2007 doesn't have the concentration or complexity to sustain this long term. Very educational to see the evolving style used with this grape and how that held up in different vintage conditions.
