Monday, September 3, 2018 - Served by our neighborly friends who hosted us with a late afternoon dinner party featuring grilled leg of lamb satay and smoked sliced leg of lamb itself. Had reportedly been decanted for five hours. Served in Riedel Vinum cabernet glasses. A medium garnet in the glass extending out to an orange rim. Initially shy nose features forest floor, red plum, and a touch of menthol. Silky palate entry, building in intensity through the mid-palate, leading into a long, menthol-tinged finish.

Overall, more advanced than I would have guessed. On Aug. 25, our local wine lovers group had a blind tasting of Italian reds that featured two 2011 Brunello di Montalcino that were much more youthful in character.
