Tuesday, September 11, 2018 - A privilege to have this wine twice within six months. This showing was slightly weaker than the one I had in April. Possibly because of the context - in April it was a more reverential tasting, and the only Rioja in an outstanding flight of wines. On this occasion, it was tasted side-by-side with more than a dozen Muga wines, so it needed to compete with phenomenal wines. In any case, this is beautiful, leathery, spicy, and a touch understated. Very possibly on the decline, but I can't imagine how that would be - these wines (and especially the 2001 vintage) last decades. Still tannic, salty and peppery. Good, but just short of great.
