Saturday, December 12, 2015 - Deep, moderately translucent dark ruby color. Somewhat restrained and quite noticeably ripe nose with gentle, sweet-toned aromas of dark plummy fruits and juicy cherries, some silky chocolate oak tones, a little bit of peppery spice and a hint of vanilla. The wine is full-bodied, ripe and juicy on the palate with silky mouthfeel and suave, sweet-toned flavors of dark plummy fruits, ripe black cherries, some sweet oak spice, a little bit of sour cherry bitterness, a hint of mocha and a touch of cedar. The somewhat soft structure relies more on the moderately high yet quite gentle acidity than on the textural medium tannins. The finish is somewhat more tannic and mouth-drying with rich, mellow flavors of milk chocolate, ripe cassis, a little bit of plummy dark fruit, light cherry tones, a hint of peppery spice and a touch of vanilla.

To some people this wine might be an instant charmer, but to me the lush, heavily oaked and noticeably sweet-toned, ripe-fruited style of the wine didn't work at all. Contrasting the much more serious, structure-driven and less fruity vintage 2006 I tasted a year ago, this was a polar opposite. The wine came across as an excessively monotonous, super-polished and modern crowdpleaser with very straightforward, sweet wood-and-fruit character and softness. Somewhat of a disappointment, not worth the 54,50€.
