85 Points

Friday, October 25, 2019 - Deep ruby with high optical density and medium specular reflectivity. Intense aromas that are appealing and fun- think candied strawberries, hard, juicy, red candy with lifted aromatic character. Not complex, but bombastic, delicious, and candied on the nose. The palate shows medium body, medium but fresh acidity, and a texture with only very slight tannins and a broad and polished feel. Almost flashy. Flavours of red fruits on the attack (strawberry, raspberry), with confectionary and light bubble gum in the background. The midpalate is juicy still, with red fruit and a bit of plum; perhaps a touch of earthiness here too. The final transition shows some herbal spice and juicy tobacco, before a finish that is medium in length and gives decaying leaf and light leather.

This is fun, easy, light, a tasty wine. Not a complex and deep monster, but a lively and showy drink that is a bargain at this price. Very difficult to rate with a single number, as this could be a 90 in the right moment, but also an 80. So mood dependent, but very likely to delight any crowd, and fits any situation that calls for juicy, fruit-driven red wine. Nice that it is not an EtOH monster also, which I find extremely refreshing. Not a wine that will impress a wine geek, as there is a varietal correctness here, but just so, and not much of a sense of place. Could be mistaken for Beaujolais, Barbera, or a number of new world medium bodied reds. Awesome as a daily dinner wine.
