Tuesday, January 14, 2020 - Pale gold, a touch deeper than expected for the age. Lovely broad aroma, much more mature than it ought to be, with coffee, nuts, mushroom, and pear. Chalky, sweet palate, more of that aged character. Much lower acidity than I was expecting, too, but it's not unbalanced and there's a core of bright fruit. A touch of herbal bitterness on the finish which mostly dissipates. I'm not sure if this is a representative bottle, maybe it was stored poorly, as it's ready to drink and won't benefit from further ageing. Reminds me of the '95 Blanc des Millénaires I had a couple of years ago. Lucky I like older champagne! Great value at this price, naturally. [Composite cork + cage; 12.5% abv; Amazon, £36.03].
