Friday, May 15, 2020 - I’m not sure how much effect a screw cap influences the course of a sweet wine (8.5% alcohol).. Ten years on this wine is aging without any obvious flaws. This bottle was one of many bought on release and stored without disturbing. Last tasted by my son Seth (see note from 2016). The color certainly reflects the age taking on a deep yellow color. Unmistakably Riesling. No question this is a mature wine but nowhere over-the-hill. On the nose caramel, pit fruit melon and strong clove/cumin spice tones. The taste reflects the nose with an underlying minerality and soft acidity creating a wonderful balance. The finish persists forever enough to effect the taste of something else which is eaten afterwards. I’m not sure how long a screw cap wine can last however I am anxious to find out.
