Friday, September 11, 2020 - We drank this as the second bottle this evening with a restaurant dinner of Bedouin-inspired middle eastern fare; the first was a bottle of the 1997 (qv). Both were double-decanted, removing light+ sediment, about 2 hours before drinking.

There was quite some contrast between the vintages - whereas the 1997 has moved into a more subtle, complex phase, this 2011 was still very much "in your face" Musar - big spicy fruit, a touch of heat, a touch of funk (although not as much as in the older vintages when they were this young) and just a little bite on the finish. But not so much complexity yet. It paired excellently with the slightly spicier food that formed the second half of the meal.

So overall this is very decent wine to drink now if you can't wait, or want the more "powerful" Musar feel, but like most vintages I guess it still has another decade ahead of it at least.
