Saturday, December 5, 2020 - I've been blessed to have the Ridge Monte Bello on the rare occasion and have drunk my share of the Ridge Zinfandels across the board. I had not known about the Estate Cabernet until recently and thought it was worth a go. This is the first of two bottles recently purchased.

First impression is one of subtlety, which is a song of high praise for anything coming out of California these past two decades. For a relatively young wine, open and inviting in both the nose and the palate. Dark fruit with a restrained amount of oak and the softest of tannins. Round -- maybe a tad thin but in a tradeoff I would take a tad thin over a jammy blockbuster any day of the week. Perhaps that is the skill of the winemaker showing her/his best -- just enough fruit without giving one a headache. The finish puckers but in a good way.

My gut says that this wine would be best within the next 3-5 years. Its vitality should be enjoyed before it fades. Beautiful.
