Friday, August 6, 2021 - Earth, leather, tobacco, pepper, wet stones, smoked roasted meats, dark stewed cherries and blackberries on the nose. Complex, reminiscent of aged, quality bdx. Full bodied, well balanced but intense sour cherries, leather, tobacco. Tannins almost fully resolve - the last remnants clinging on stubbornly. A well built wine with robust structure. The finish lingers for ages. Very, very good, but likely at its peak, or even a few years over.

I've had younger Paleos, most of them after Le Macchiole moved to 100% cab franc in 2001. Quality wise, this is as good as any of the other I've tried, but I must admit there's something quite sublime about the single varietal bottling and the way that expresses in the glass. Nonetheless - this was very a compelling offering from a producer that I really like.
