Thursday, September 9, 2021 - BLIND REDS - Bordeaux varietals (mostly Napa and BDX) - Over/Under $100: Ah ha! My gorgeous gothic beauty! Where have you been? I have missed you so. It’s been a hot minute since I last had this wine and yet again, I just can’t help but fall in love with it. Black fruit. Black rock. Black everything. I super dig this profile here, and am quite frankly a little shocked at how deeply pitched and mineral-driven this wine is. Of all the Scarlett Reserves, this is SO my wine. The chiseled focus is so on point, heightened even further by a critical (almost severe) frame that makes you believe it’s going to be just too hardcore. But it perfectly threads the needle between the strict (both in acidic tension and mineral frame) and the savory. Finishes super serious. Distinct and delineated. A wine to have when you feel like embodying David Beckham’s jawline.

Not blind.

9/13/2021 11:59:00 AM - Hi Yackman. This is my sixth review now, and having already given it multiple 99/100s, I am going away from continuing to put a numeric on wines I’ve scored over and over again unless the number changes significantly. If I review a wine a few times and score it, further tasting notes will generally be without the numeric (but I’ll still write the note to give updates on the wine’s performance).

Some of this came about from some haters giving me crap cuz they thought I was just trying to skew particular favorites of mine with always giving high scores (which was BS all along anyway, but this at least helps to quell some of that nonsense). Anyway, in short, unless the score changes that much, I’m doing less of the numeric once I’ve scored it a few times. This Scarlett is still in the highest 90s/100 bracket for me.

9/16/2021 5:36:00 AM - I understand but was a little curious. Concerning the haters, the haters will always hate... too bad for them. For me, my interest in how certain wines evolve, it's nice to have an idea about the path a wine taking, so I really don't mind the updates. Personally, I have enjoyed this 2015 vintage both the Napa Valley and the Reserve. Are you still into the Carter wines the days?

9/16/2021 8:30:00 AM - I try to update progress on each bottle when I'm able, as I certainly appreciate it when others do the same. I still think the 2015 Scarlett Reserve is the best Scarlett ever produced. I've had some of the recent Carters here and there, but have not gone through the lineup from front to back. (I've been exploring a lot of white Burg and Champagne lately, and some other small projects out of Napa). It'll be interesting to see if there is any noticeable stylistic change now that Bevan is making the wines at Carter.
