Sunday, January 16, 2022 - Interestingly, upon popping open, this tasted exceptionally tight, undrinkable even. Poured an inch into a glass and let sit in the bottle for 3 hours and it transformed remarkably. Wound up opening a 2007 Sassacaia also after concern about the preliminary Maiden taste.

What a difference in wines of comparable vintage… the shorter Sassacaia cork was 1/3 soaked and the Maiden’s barely past contact point. Bricking evident for the Sassicaia and dark consistent edges on Maiden. Once open for a couple of hours the Maiden was better both alone and with steak dinner. Didn’t take specific notes, however mint was a component I definitely recall for the 2008 Maiden. Perhaps aged Italian wines aren’t my thing?

A high quality and delicious wine; seems to be a good age for this vintage with plenty of freshness and no decline indicators. This particular bottle needed 3 hours and I’ll decant the other two accordingly when opening between 2022 & 2026.
