I couldn’t determine why BMW uses the designation of M5 on their luxury automobile, but I did find out why Margerum uses that on the label of their wine

Margerum M5 Estate White Rhône Blend 2020

M, refers to the winery name, Margerum, and the 5 reflects the fact that the wine is composed of 5 grape varietals similar to the great wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc; in this case a unique blend of Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier, and Picpoul Blanc. From their 18-acre estate vineyards, dedicated to Rhone grape varietals and lying within the Los Olivos region within Santa Barbara, they strive to make their wines naturally. Once fermented, the wine is aged in mostly neutral French oak barrels and puncheons giving it a rustic quality found in many Rhone-style wines.

Beginning with both bright acidity and citrus notes, the wine offers stone fruit elements and a subtle creaminess along with the minerality, lending itself to compete with those famous Rhone whites, without the expense, as this wine was obtained for a mere $14.99.

The small family-owned winery produces an assortment of Rhone-style wines, the other of note is their M5 Red Rhone Blend, like the white, it is a blend of 5 Rhone varietals; Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, and Counoise and should be available for around $20.

So, while I would love to own a BMW M5 (too steep for my pocketbook as it retails around $100,000), I know that I can withstand the $15 needed to obtain this wonderful wine. It might be cold outside, at least where I live, but it’s always the right time for a superb wine!
