Monday, November 22, 2021 - Dinner at Jade Palace with the Popiah Party (Jade Palace, Forum Galleria, Singapore): My first bottle of the 168, which is built around the excellent 2012 vintage. This was very nice indeed. It took awhile to get going, but was delicious when it did. I loved the nose here; it was subtle but inviting, with notes of cream and almonds, apples and light floral notes, alongside a little touch of brioche just emerging at the sides of the bouquet. A rather perfumed young Krug Grande Cuvee I thought. The palate was lovely too. There was a nice depth and an effortless sense of power in its flavours of apples and lemons on the attack, but the wine was also really well-shaped by a fine mousse and lovely acidity, and so full of dry extract and minerality that it always felt noble and quite elegantly structured. Lovely finish too, with a long trail of stony mineral that lingered beautifully on the back-palate. Lovely stuff, especially after an hour or two in the glass. This did feel like it was not quite firing on all cylinders yet though, with plenty left in reserve still - unsurprising for a youngish Grande Cuvee. It will be even better after a few more years in the bottle.
