Friday, July 2, 2021 - Deep ruby-black
Attractive aromas of ripe blackcurrant, dried blueberries, dried mint, perhaps, or even sage (?) with a slight lolly stick combined with spice to suggest oak influence. Maybe a hint of blackcurrant leaf as the wine opens? or greener undergrowth.
Mid-bodied with plenty on the entry with bright fruits popping out, penetration to the palate with oodles of blackcurrant compote and cassis fruits underscored by a zesty lemon acidity and chewy yet sweet tannins.
Some complexity from savoury nuances add interest whilst the fruits on the palate seem more baked than the nose. Powdery texture, more than fleshy, there is a sweetness (from ellagic tannins) that combines with 90%+ bitter chocolate. Good length, smart wine but not with the depth and concentration of some earlier vintages like 2012, yet still a beautiful wine.
