Monday, August 7, 2023 - 3L solo consumption
So....I was going to sell this at auction, checked the cork, and a pinhole leak developed. I had to open it, but all my wine drinking friends are away, so what does a person do? I opened it and drank it over 24 hours.
First 750ml was thin, loads of iodine, barnyard, no fruit. All tertiary notes. 87 pts
Second 750ml the wine started to balance out. Consumed cellar temperature which seemed to round out the wine? The wine was starting to evolve. More floral. 88pts
Third 750ml the wine has settled down nicely. Drinking exactly how one would expect of an aged BDX. Much smoother and silkier now. 89 pts
Last 750ml is drinking the best. Some remnants of red fruit seemed to have percolated to the wines surface. By far the best the wine showed from this three liter jug. 90-91 pts
Quite the experience knocking back this big bottle solo.
Lots of grilled meat and also Whitespot delivery. Britt's mom visited today.

8/8/2023 8:29:00 AM - Thanks Pavel. Was definitely an unanticipated bottle opening. It went better than I expected. No more 3L in my cellar. The rest were sent to auction. Now I think it may have been a mistake, as drinking a double magnum over 24 hours by myself is easy to do. Cheers!
