Wednesday, April 4, 2018 - Dinner with Henri Boillot (Chicago, IL): A stunning nose greets you when you raise your glass. It's got everything you would expect from such a wine -- intensity, complexity, and power. Perfumed from the red fruit, but earthy at the same time, this is a wine with lots and lots to discover. The fruit, as expected from the vintage, is quite opulent, but it's all held together by huge tannins and ample acidity. As with so many other 2009s I've tasted, the more I taste them, the more I think that the vintage is excellent. The wines have not turned out to be the massive fleshpots that I had been afraid of. Going back to the Chambertin though, there is still a slight touch of oak here, but as with the whites, the oak use is judicious and hardly an impediment to enjoyment.
