96 Points

Friday, October 1, 2021 - Denis Mortet horisontal vintage 2003 Winetasting dinner (16 btls) (Nordsjælland): Tasted 11 cuvees from Denis Mortet vintage 2003 and 5 other domaines for comparison reasons. We are talking about one of the most criticized vintages, but the tasting was a surprise. I gave 90 points or more to 9 out of 11 cuvees. All wines were garnet in color showing the tertiary development stage, but not too much, which I personally find un charming. The winner was Le Chambertin which I scored 97 closely followed by Clos de Vougeot (96). No. 3 was Lavaux St. Jacques (93).

This wine: Medium garnet color: Lots of fruit, blossom. On the palate: High acidity, medium tannins and long finish. Not expected that quality level from Clos de Vougeot. Outstanding and very close to the more expensive Le Chambertin.
