Friday, June 3, 2011 - Aromatically interesting with crushed pepper and black fruits surrounded by a cloak of vanilla. Hints of coffee bean and earth through the mid palate but they never built enough strength to be factored into the overall tapestry of flavor. I did like the first sip that brought out some great flavors of plum and crushed blackberry, however those seemed too fleeting. Monolithic tannins lent a nice weight but might have been a bit excessive. A solid wine, if somewhat unremarkable. Consumed another glass on the second day, the wine still had life but didn't gain anything from added exposure to air. Paired nicely with hamburgers but at $25 a bottle, it's an expensive bbq wine..
