Sunday, June 24, 2012 - I drank half on day 1, then pumped & set the rest on the counter. The next day brought a very different, much improved wine.
Day 1's note reads: cranberry, dark cherry, brown spice & candied nose. Tasting brings high acid--flawed? Acid is far out of balance. All citric cut & a tart back end; red fruits show up on the back end. Low 80s? Flawed?
Day 2 went something like: similar nose as on day 1. Palate is much more inviting now. Either the acid has settled down or the texture has expanded--probably some of both--to bring great balance to this wine. Now enjoyably ripe, tart (yet soft) red fruits play against great orange citrus cut; all with a comforting brown spice undertone. Good length to the finish that leaves me anxious for more. 90+ today.
My hands are off until 2 years from now, and I'll have high hopes then.
