Monday, September 30, 2019 - Unlike the ‘08, the color of this wine is a bit further along, but young, nonetheless with pomegranate from the rim to the core. The nose is big and fullsomme with pomegranate, coffee, Draper perfume, rhubarb and mocha with just a touch of brown sugar. This is a rich, ripe and deep wine that can be thoroughly enjoyed now or held a bit longer. Some slight sediment about the shoulder. 74% Zin., 17% Carignane, 6% Petite Sirah, 2% Alicante Boushet. 14.3% alc. Recommended.

For fun and comparison, we also pulled:

Ridge Vineyards Zinfandel Geyserville Alexander Valley Sonoma Valley Ca. 2008

Much like the ‘07 Geyeserville, the color is a brilliant plum purple. Loads of Draper perfume, with a dollop of coffee, plum and rhubarb, yet the nose is a touch - or more - tight. The palate shows the same olfactory profile - same flavors and same tightness. While an excellent wine, it has a nervous reserve suggesting that the a touch of patience will reward in the years to come. Maybe give this another 5 years of slumber, although Eric Barger’s comments on the back label suggest that we are in the heart of its drinking window (2018 through 2023). Some slight sediment. 72% Zin., 20% Carignane, 6% Petite Sirah. 14.8% alc. Recommended.

DD and PM enjoyed the ‘08 the most while I preferred the ‘09. With beef London Broil while PM is home.
