Friday, June 17, 2011 - Splash decanted and drank over 2.5 hours. Still a very dark ruby color with no visible lightening at the edges. At first, reticent aromas of plums, exotic herbs and coffee, which opened up considerably with time. Dense and seamless on the palate, with dark berries and chocolate and a hint of sweet tobacco. Very long on the finish, with very fine-grained tannins still very much in evidence. Frankly, I was shocked at how unevolved this bottle was. Will improve with another 5 or more years of cellaring. A sensuous Pomerol that appears to be just entering its drinking window.
