Wednesday, September 5, 2018 - First from this case of one of my favourite wines. 2hrs aerated decant.
Just hitting its (almost invariably) very long plateau. Focussed blackcurrant and plum with cigar tobacco overtones and a touch of Pinotage lily-florals. Smoke. Integrated fine grainy oak and precise tannins all contribute to making this vintage particularly refined and complex.
Excellent and enjoyable now but should gain a point or two more over the next 5yrs or so as it opens up even more. Overall should easily make 20yrs from vintage at a high level. 91+?+
