Monday, July 14, 2014 - Much fresher and darker-colored than the tired 1985's I've had of this wine. All the secondary notes you look for in mature Brunello are here--leather, smoke, and earth--alongside a generous helping of atypically dark blackberry fruit, an herbal note, and lively acidity. Tannin to go for awhile longer, but the structure has receded and is no longer obtrusive. Maybe a bit too biting, but this is a textbook example of what a well-made, somewhat ripe/extracted Sangiovese ages into.
