90 Points

Monday, August 12, 2013 - P&P at restaurant, so conditions not conducive for noting color. Pulled from its slumber in the cellar and with no aeration, to my surprise the bouquet is singing Northern Rhone Syrah, with black olive, blackberry but also some red raspberry notes, roasted herbs, distinct blood iron, beef juice, black pepper, and minerals. A well-delineated and memorable nose I wanted to smell again and again. On the palate there was dense blackberries and licorice, with lots of blood, minerals, meat and some earth. Excellent concentration, some tangy acidity, and drying tannins that muscle stronger in the finish. Simply marvelous with loads of savory flavors and an excellent pairing with pairing with Polpette pasta and meathead pizza prepared in Northern Italy style. I would have scored it 91 but the finish tapers off rather quickly, which is a surprise given the concentration of flavors in the attack. Easily fulfilled its price point of 25.
