Thursday, October 14, 2010 - Very deeply colored, intensely colored rim indicated extreme extraction techniques, rim still has purple, ruby hue. On the nose the wine is very intense with loads of dark berry fruit, tons of baking spices/some nice vanilla notes from new barriques, some florality... still quite primary and very fruit dominated. On the palate the wine has average acidity, as lush and broad of a midpalate as you can imagine, a very nice transition into a finsih that has some of the most polymerized tannins I have come across all year... they are ripe, but not obnoxiously so and there are tons of them, moderate + alcohol. Quality wise the wine is too soft with the acidity and tannins no match for the enormous midpalate sweetness/ETOH... very good length, insane intensity, average complexity at this stage. The wine isn't full of finesse but isn't clumsy so much, the texture is as lush as lush can be, and expression of place is so, so... it does scream "overworked" Argentinean malbec but not sure that counts so much for 'great' expression of place.
