Friday, July 3, 2015 - This is the best sub $50 Napa-style Cab that I have had and I am glad that I bought a lot of it because it continues to please. Requires a longer decant (2 hrs) than when first released to get to peak integration. Very floral bouquet with enticing rose, blackberry and cherry scents. Fruit forward cab with silky tannins -- blackberry, cherry and some blueberry notes drive this wine -- almost like a mixed berry pie. Good acidity and well integrated tannins keep this from being over the top. With time, the wine has evolved to include some more complex flavors of leather, dried herb and anise. The oak is very present upon opening but integrates and fades to the background as the fruit comes forward with a longer decant. 2008 is the gold standard of the entry level Hall Cab vintages and is drinking very well even if not the "pop and pour" it was when first released. 2012 vintage is the closest approximation to this version.
