Sunday, June 1, 2014 - 1 of 3 wines we had that evening. 20€/27USD in Germany, it was a present. I never had a VNdM but already some other Italian Sangiovese blends. I usually do not favour this style.
14% vol., 85% Prugnolo Gentile, 10% Canaiolo Nero, 5% Mammolino, 18 months in barrique.
Eye: Bright garnet red with a brown touch, obvious signs of aging. Slow legs.
Nose: Liquorice, violet, amarena cherry, mint, herbal, medium intense, concentrated, balsamic. 11/15p.
Palate: Initially very muted, improved within 2 hours in the bottle, medium tannins, medium(+) acidity, soft, smooth, silky, discreet berry notes, herbal, elegant, cool. 11/15p.
Body/Balance: Light-medium bodied, well balanced, good texture. 8/10p.
Finish: Medium finish, dry, fruity, good length. 7/10p.
11+11+8+7(+50) = 87/100p. Overall a very good wine, but still not my style. Those Northern Italians are just too discreet and cool for me.
