Thursday, September 1, 2016 - Another beautiful Vosne 1er Cru, albeit several decades younger than the Charles Noellat. This too had a lovely nose, with drifts of earth and mineral around a deep core of plums and dark cherry aromas, then layers of Vosne spiciness, and a little floral note. Served blind, no one had any doubt this was a Vosne-Romanee based on that nose alone. It was still quite youthful on the palate, tightly packed, with plenty of fruit and a structure of fine-boned tannins still clearly at the fore. It was really impressive though - with a beautiful clarity and elegance to its palate-coating flavours of black cherries infused with a real mouthful of fragrant Vosne wood spices. There was still so much packed inside this bottle. Pure Hudelot Noellat though, and a lovely expression of Beauxmonts - beautiful depth, great balance, and wonderful finish to boot. A fantastic wine, just starting to show well, but with a long life ahead of it yet.
