Saturday, November 12, 2016 - Ruby. Iron, roast meat, leather, and stewed plums are some of the aromas that pour from the glass. The earthy and meaty notes are quite alluring but the stewed plum detracts from the freshness. Tannins are fully resolved, not unexpected given the vintage. The 1996 Hermitage is probably at its peak but should provide several more years of good drinking.
