95 Points

Wednesday, July 14, 2021 - This layered and ripe Cabernet blend is transfixing right now - obviously on the mature side, but with plenty of energy and nuance, paired with a sweet fullness that the best mature California wines provide in spades. (Read: you wouldn't confuse this with a Bordeaux, but I dig that about this wine.) Purchased as a curiosity for $100 on WineBid, this wine more than delivered.

Garnet in color and full in body, the wine offers captivating aromas of blackberry, graphite, fresh mushroom, and dried oregano. The flavors are ripe but precise, with notes of sour cherry, tobacco leaf, espresso grounds, and crushed rock, with a balanced and lingering finish that develops a lovely cocoa note after a few hours of air. Blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 15% Cab Franc. 14.1% alcohol. Made by Luc Morlet, who took over after Mark Aubert left in 1999. 95+ at the moment, but likely to continue going strong for another 3-5 years.
