Tuesday, June 9, 2015 - Westchester Wine School - Premium Bordeaux Tasting (Bar Lees, Mamaroneck, NY): Drank at WWS season-ending premium tasting (and had it last in 6/2014 at last year's event, tho Ned didn't recall bringing it). Drank this in final flight of the eve vs. 2005 Las Cases & 2006 Pontet Canet). My notes are entirely consistent with last year's tasting, tho the wine seems to be evolving--slowly--in the right direction. Deep dark ruby color. Generous nose of black fruit, tobacco, tar & some vanilla. On the palate, full bodied, still quite fat, lush and rich, bold and powerful, and very new world in style--a definite favorite of RP, though I'm unsure of the 100 pts rating assigned. Plenty of sweet ripe black fruit, toasted oak, tar, tobacco, & a bit of lead pencil. Tannins, to me, are quite prevalent, though on the softer side, yet with good acidity. Very nice length. This remains a very young wine which, though certainly accessible and enjoyable right now if this is your style, I believe its best days lie at least 5-10 years down the road when it should become more balanced, with more restrained fruit and more tertiary elements take hold.
